Munster League Division 1 Venue Change

Due to availability problems the matches scheduled for the West County Hotel in Ennis on 6th December have been moved to the Woodstock Hotel, Ennis. This change affects Ennis A, Ennis B, Limerick and Sarsfield.

Munster Leagues Division 1 Update

The first two rounds were played on Sunday November 15th. Last year's winners Cork A are the only team of full points having won both of their matches. Full match results and leader board are on the match results page or under the leagues menu button on the left.

Detailed board by board results for each match are on the game results page.

I would like to thank all the team captains for submitting their results within 24 hours. They have now been uploaded to the ICU Ratings Webite.

Munster League Division 2

Division 2 currently has teams from Charleville, Dungarvan, Cork B, Knights of St. James(Mallow) and Limerick B. If other teams wish to enter please contact me at 087 987 9172 as soon as possible.

I expect the draw for Division 2 to be completed shortly and the first rounds will either be on the 6th December or early January. Since there are only 5 teams Division 2 will catch up with Division by the end of the league.

Munster Championship 2015 Games

Thanks to the efforts of Eric Salsac in transcribing the scores of the games not played on the electronic boards the games from the recent Munster Championship are now available for download as a pgn file.

Once the new leagues are up and running I hope to set up a Javascript board so that the games can be viewed online.

Best Wishes to the New ICU Executive

We would like to wish all members of the ICU Executive all the best in their endeavours for the coming year. The following is a brief message from our Chairman on this topic.

As I am sure anyone visiting this site or boards.ie will be aware, we at the MCU have unfortunately had a difficult time with respect to our relationship with the executive of the Irish Chess Union (ICU ) recently.

Following the results of elections at the ICU AGM last weekend we now have a new executive running the ICU and I am pleased to say that in the very short time that has elapsed there have been numerous contacts between the MCU and the new ICU Chairman, John McMorrow.

These contacts have been very positive and already relations between the MCU and the ICU have gone back to being as friendly and productive as they always should have been.

I am delighted that John is following up on his manifesto promises to work with the provincial unions so swiftly and believe we can look forward to some very positive times ahead. I wish him and his executive every possible success and look forward to the future with renewed optimism.

Alan Salsac

Chairman Munster Chess Union
