Pat Hayes RIP

Pat Hayes, President of Limerick Chess Club for many years, passed away quite suddenly on Monday 28th March 2016. He had been an active member of Limerick Chess Club for many decades and actually played a club championship match the previous Wednesday.

Pat attended the club regularly and encouraged junior members. One of his techniques was to deliberately allow tactical opportunities to see if his opponents would spot them. He rarely offered such 'opportunities' to his more senior colleagues. He will be sadly missed by his fellow club members.

Perhaps Pat's main contribution to the MCU was his successful campaign to have smoking at the board banned from Munster League matches years before Michael Martin introduced his legislatiom.

May he rest in peace.

Munster League Schedule For Last Three Rounds

Yet again there will be changes to schedule for the final two rounds of the Munster League.

The next two rounds will be played on 6th March at the Charleville Park Hotel as scheduled. This will be rounds 9 and 10 of Division 1 and Rounds 5 and 6 for Division 2.

Rounds 11 and 12 of Division 1 and Rounds 7 and 8 of Division 2 have been rescheduled to Sunday 17th April. The venue(s) for these rounds have not yet been finalised.

The final roundup for both Divisions will be played on Sunday 8th May and this is likely to be played at Charleville Park hotel.

The changes were due to the fact that the second last round was originally scheduled for Easter Sunday and the roundup is being moved to clear the 24th April for the National Club Championship.

Munster League Results

As we pass the halfway point in Division 1 Cork A on 7.5 points out of 8 are being closely pursued by Ennis A on 7 points. The meeting of these two teams in Round 9 will be critical. The full leader board and round by round match results are available here. The full game by game results for each match are available here.

Division 2 match results are here. The Division 2 game results are available here.

I'd like to acknowledge the efforts of the team captains in submitting their results within days of the matches this year so that they can be submitted on time for FIDE rating.
